Dear Armstrong Families,
Welcome back from our winter break. Everyone comes back so fresh and eager to learn. We will continue to work on our character traits, encouraging good behavior and social skills. If you get a chance to look in the MPR you will see our new character banners high on the walls designed by our student council. Each month we choose a new trait to discuss in the classroom and it is discussed during our lunch time. We are currently working on Integrity; the act of committing yourself to do what is right. We will continue to notice students who display good character reinforcing the positive. Parents can continue the process at home discussing the character trait of the month and talking about examples of the behavior.
It is so cold at this time of the year. Please remember to remind students to wear their jackets. It is warm in the classroom but chilly out at recess. This is a long stretch of time in our school year. This is our opportunity as educators to teach extended lessons and pour through the standards without interruptions. Please encourage your child to complete their homework assignments on time and communicate with their teachers if the assignments cannot be completed in the scope of time appropriate for their grade level.
Our spring break will be our next extended time off beginning April 5th through April 9th and we do have holidays on January 18th and February 15th, with a staff development day on January 25th.
Thank you for your continued support of our school through your volunteer hours and your commitment to PTA and our academic boosters. We are a community of learners consisting of students as well as community members, parents, teachers and support staff. We all have a role to play in the effort to help our children achieve excellence.
Sincerely,
Lorna Monteith
